Here at Always There Automotive we are a Geelong VicRoads Licensed Vehicle Tester which means we are authorized to carry out roadworthy inspections on light vehicles and issue roadworthy certificates in Geelong. A roadworthy certificate is required to transfer the ownership of a vehicle registered in Victoria, which basically means if you are buying or selling a registered car in Victoria you will need a roadworthy certificate.

Jensen Healey roadworthy certificate in Geelong.

A 1975 Jensen-Healey MkII in for a roadworthy inspection at Always There Automotive in Geelong.

A roadworthy inspection ensures all safety aspects of a vehicle are in good order and the vehicle is safe to be driven on our roads. These items include tyres, brakes, steering and suspension, seat belts and restraint systems, windscreens and washers, etc.

A common misconception when it comes to roadworthy certificates is that people believe a car that comes with a roadworthy certificate is in tip-top condition in every way, including mechanically. This is definitely not the case. A roadworthy inspection only includes SAFETY items on the vehicle. It does not include a mechanical inspection on the condition of the engine or the rest of the power train in anyway. As long as the vehicle meets all safety standards required by VicRoads it will pass a roadworthy inspection.

So this means a vehicle that has brand new tyres, brakes, a well maintained steering and suspension system, etc. but has an engine with a leaking head gasket will pass a roadworthy inspection, as the condition of the engine (aside from oil leaks) has nothing to do with the safety of the vehicle as far as a RWC is concerned.

Keep this in mind the next time you are shopping for a vehicle! Just because it comes with a roadworthy certificate does not mean it is mechanically A1. If you would like to ensure the vehicle is in all over tip top condition we can perform a Pre-Purchase Vehicle Inspection for you.

Earlier this week we had a 1975 Jensen-Healey MkII in for a RWC inspection. It was in amazing condition for its age and being so well maintained by the previous owner it had no issues passing the roadworthy inspection first time.
